Description

Scope Note

Global 2000 Report to the President was released in 1980 by the Council on Environmental Quality and the Department of State. It was commissioned by President Jimmy Carter on May 23, 1977, and was directed by Gerald O. Barney. It was based on data collected by different institutions. This data and information was used in computer models to make projections for the future based on trends for the next decades. An additional report under the title "Global Future: Time to Act" was published 1981.

The report deals with the possible future trends such as global warming, energy scarcity, explosive human population growth, plant and fauna species eradication, genetic diversity extinction, and Earth’s finite resources, etc.

This Reagan administration material consists of copies of the reports and some correspondence and memos about the reports and any follow-ups required. The report was largely ignored by the Reagan administration.
