Initial funding and construction came entirely from the community, without any government involvement. Therefore, Reagan cited in the park in a 1983 speech, as an example of what Americans could accomplish through voluntary effort. A bronze statue of Reagan was dedicated at the park in 2012. (Reagan also owned 778 acres of land near Temecula from 1968 to 1976.)

A bronze statue of Ronald Reagan as a 12-year-old boy was dedicated at the park in 2013.
