The President today announced the appointment of Charles N. Brower to be Deputy Special Counsellor to the President.

Since 1984 Judge Brower has been a Judge of the Iran-United States Claims Tribunal in The Hague, The Netherlands, an international tribunal composed of independent judges; and since 1985 he has been a member of the board of governors of the American Bar Association. Previously, he practiced law with the firm of White & Case in New York City and Washington, DC, 1961 - 1969 and 1973 - 1984; and from 1969 - 1973, he served in various positions at the Department of State, including Acting Legal Adviser.

Judge Brower graduated from Harvard College (B.A., 1957) and Harvard Law School (J.D., 1961), and he was a Fulbright scholar in Germany (1957 - 1958). He was born June 5, 1935, in Plainfield, NJ.
